Earlier this year we wrote a Signal about dalgona coffee, a hot new quarantine trend in which instant coffee, sugar, and hot water are whisked together until light and foamy, then spooned over a glass of iced milk.
The article inspired Trendster Jason Francisto start his company, ¡Feliz!.
In July, Jason wrote in the Facebook group: “My brother and I just soft-launched our new brand ¡Feliz! last week that is based on a Trends Signal about Dalgona whipped coffee… Our costs to launch are under $2k (including trademark applications) and it took about 6 weeks of part-time from both of us to get to the soft launch.”
According to Jason, the company got off to a decent start and sold out of their first order and recouped their $2k pretty quickly. They have since redesigned their packaging after a flaw in the original packaging was allowing too much air into the container (“One of the joys of launching quickly”, per Jason).
They are now about to relaunch after tests with customers and influencers yielded positive feedback. In the future they plan to add customized whisks, a steeped single serve coffee product line, and subscription offerings.
Today we’re highlighting another delicious TikTok craze that is exploding, (and honestly, we’re not upset about it).
The #HotChocolateBomb tag has 26m+ views on TikTok. This pack of gourmet Belgian hot cocoa bombs with mini marshmallows (seriously, we’re drooling over here) brings in $90k/month in revenue, according to JungleScout.
Social media food fads like rainbow cake and cronuts pop up all the time. Unlike other fads, food trends tend to stick around -- nearly 2 years after the peak of rainbow cake’s popularity, there are still 18.1k searches every month for “rainbow cake recipe,” according to Keywords Everywhere.
In addition to providing equipment such as silicone molds and “make your own bombs” kits, you could combine this trend with an endless list of others that will stand the test of time: think vegan bombs, collagen (and collagen alternatives) bombs, paleo bombs, nut butter bombs, adaptogen bombs, and even sleep chocolate bombs.
A subscription service could take advantage by making holiday-themed products. We’ll no doubt see Christmas-themed hot chocolate bombs hit the market soon. Other big chocolate holidays like Valentine’s Day and Easter will surely follow suit.
