Flares: Organ Supplements, Needling Felting, and Japandi

Are Organ Supplements the Next Collagen?

Can we interest you in some cow brains with breakfast? Lungs perhaps?

It might sound ridiculous, but Ancestral Supplements is making $1.5m+/mo on Amazon, according to Jungle Scout. This doesn’t include sales the company makes through their own website.

They sell a range of grass-fed beef organ supplements, which includes liver, brain, eye, and even prostate supplements for ~$50/bottle.

The company’s philosophy is based on the ancient Native American ancestral wisdom that “like supports like.” In other words, consuming beef eyes may support optimal vision health.

In the last month there were 9.2k searches for “Ancestral Supplements” on Amazon and 14.8k on Google, up 51% from the same time last year, according to Keywords Everywhere.

Before you turn your nose up at the trend, remember that collagen (made from ground-up hooves, hides, bones, and nerve tissues) is expected to be a $6B industry by 2026.

As interest in organ supplements grows, there will be opportunities to get involved. Specialized supplements for pregnancy, sports, paleo dieters, and even pets may take off.

Just as the collagen market evolved from capsules to powders, creamers, bars, sweets, and even flavored waters, the organ supplement market looks set to follow suit.

Needle Felting Is the New DIY Darling

Source: Subreddit Stats

The r/NeedleFelting subreddit is a place for people to post and boast about their latest needle felt creations, which range from Baby Yoda to pet portraits to Monet’s Regatta at Sainte-Adresse oil painting.

The craft, which entails creating 3D objects from wool by stabbing it with a barbed needle, is taking off. It has ~174m views on TikTok, 920k+ posts on Instagram, and 60k+ monthly searches on Google, according to Keywords Everywhere.

To capitalize, you could provide guides, tutorials, materials, and DIY kits (once-off or on a subscription basis) like this one on Etsy for $40.

You could also make a range of natural children’s toys, mobiles, and collectibles. Big names like Nintendo are already jumping on a similar woven toys trend with their Yoshi’s Woolly World yarn character collectibles based on their Switch game of the same name.

Japandi: ‘The New Minimalism’

We #cantstopwontstop writing about trends coming out of Japan, from the Kintsugi Flare we wrote in December to the 3k+ word Deep Dive we wrote in August.

We are #sorrynotsorry to be bringing you another trend from the fascinating Asian island.

Japandi -- “Japanese design meets Scandanavian minimalism” -- has seen a 100%+ increase in YoY searches on Pinterest. Google search volume skyrocketed to 67k monthly searches in January 2021 from 18k in December, per Keywords Everywhere.

According to Pinterest, “Sleek lines, neutral color schemes and calming setups will be on the radars of Pinners everywhere” in 2021.

In addition to sleek wooden furniture, you can expect to see an uptick in demand for bedding and bath collections in neutral tones, minimalist lighting, and Japandi-inspired playlists and video streams as a result of the rising trend.
