**HypoCat**

**Are we in for a cat boom? We’re paws-itively sure of it (sorry!).** Swiss company [HypoPet AG](https://www.hypopet.ch/) has created the HypoCat vaccine, which [coaxes](https://gizmodo.com/scientists-have-created-a-vaccine-for-cat-allergies-bu-1837242570) a cat’s immune system into producing less of a protein that causes allergic reactions in 10% of humans. Search interest in HypoCat spiked after updates on the vaccine last month.

**Early adopters:** The vaccine is not expected to be available until 2022. US cat ownership [has already increased by 20%](https://www.iii.org/table-archive/22305), to 47m, since 2011. HypoCat will likely increase ownership further, creating more opportunities for [pet-specific](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lP_44atmed_T82rNtYJDqqkjR3kp_L_0jeNptQ_9F1I/edit?mc_cid=24144122be&mc_eid=[UNIQID]#gid=0) and cat-specific industries.
